When does the Dragon Bridge breathe fire?
The Dragon Bridge performs its fire-and-water show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, starting at 9:00 pm and running for about 30 minutes. The dragon breathes fire first, then switches to spraying water, cycling between the two.
It is completely free. There are no tickets and no bookings. You simply need to be there.
One caveat worth taking seriously: the schedule can change during public holidays, Tet, or bad weather. If your trip has only one weekend evening in it, ask your hotel reception to confirm on the day.
Where to stand
This is what decides whether the trip is worth it. Same show, wrong spot, and you spend 30 minutes looking at the back of someone's head.
1. Tran Hung Dao pavement (east bank)
The most popular option, directly facing the dragon's head — you see both the fire and the water clearly. It is also the most crowded. Arrive before 8:15 pm if you want a decent position.
2. Love Bridge and the Carp Dragon statue
A few hundred metres north of the bridge and noticeably less packed. The angle is oblique rather than head-on, but you get the whole bridge and the lit-up river in one frame. If you are with small children or older relatives, this is a much easier evening.
3. A rooftop café on the riverfront
You pay for drinks, but you get a seat, air conditioning and no crowd. Book ahead at weekends. This is the sensible choice with young children or if it rains.
4. A Han River cruise boat
Seen from the water, you get the whole bridge in view. It is the best angle and the most expensive, and it needs booking in advance.
Practical notes
- Arrive 30–45 minutes early. Both ends of the bridge close to traffic from around 8:30 pm, so arriving late means parking far away and walking back.
- Eat first. Restaurants near the bridge get slammed after 8:30 pm and service slows right down.
- Mind the wind direction. When the dragon sprays water, the front rows get wet. Plenty of people want exactly that — but plan for it if you are carrying a camera.
- Do not rush off at 9:30. That is when a thousand people leave simultaneously. Staying for a drink for 15–20 minutes is far more pleasant than standing in the crush.
Getting there and back
The Dragon Bridge is central, crossing the Han River between the old town and the road out to My Khe Beach. From most central or beachfront hotels it is a 5–15 minute trip.
The difficulty is not getting there — it is getting home. After 9:30 pm, ride-hailing apps around the bridge routinely quote 20–30 minute waits because everyone books at once, and surge pricing kicks in.
This is why many visitors rent an electric motorbike from MLC Motorbike Rental for the evening: park a few hundred metres from the bridge, walk back to it afterwards and ride straight home without waiting for anyone. Electric bikes are quiet, need no fuel stop, and for short city trips a full day costs less than two taxi rides.
Travelling as a family or a larger group? A car with a driver makes more sense — the driver knows where to wait and will meet you at an agreed point rather than competing with the crowd for a vehicle.

What to combine it with
The show is only 30 minutes, so most people build an evening around it:
- Before 9 pm: walk the east bank of the Han River, stop at the Love Bridge, have dinner around Tran Hung Dao
- After 9:30 pm: late seafood or stir-fried sea snails at My Khe, about 10 minutes away
