Da Nang is a city built for two wheels. The licence rules in Vietnam, explained

Under current Vietnamese regulations, anyone aged 16 or over may ride an electric motorbike or a petrol moped with an engine capacity under 50cc without holding a driving licence. This is what makes these two categories practical for foreign visitors.

It is worth being clear about what this does and does not mean:

• You do not need an International Driving Permit for an electric bike or a sub-50cc scooter. Your passport is enough to complete the rental.
• Anything 50cc and above is different. Riding a standard 110cc or 150cc scooter in Vietnam does require a valid motorcycle licence - either a Vietnamese one, or an International Driving Permit of the correct category accompanied by your home licence. Riding one without that is uninsured and illegal, whoever rented it to you.
• Helmets are compulsory on every two-wheeler, electric ones included. We provide helmets with the bike.
• Check your travel insurance. Many policies exclude motorbike incidents unless you were licensed for the vehicle. Staying in the no-licence-required category keeps that simple.

• The longer the hire, the lower the daily rate. Ask us for weekly or multi-month pricing.

The monthly rate includes two helmets and a phone holder, which is genuinely useful for following a map as you ride.

I am a foreign visitor with no Vietnamese licence - can I rent?

Yes. Electric motorbikes and 50cc scooters require no driving licence in Vietnam for anyone aged 16 or over. You only need your passport for the paperwork.

Do I need an International Driving Permit?

Not for these two categories. You would need one - plus your home licence - for any motorbike of 50cc or more, which is why we recommend staying with the electric bike or the 50cc scooter if you are not licensed.

How far does the electric bike go on one charge?
